ICM Asset Management is seeking a Manager or Senior Manager, Tax in Calgary to join our team. Candidates will be considered at the appropriate level based on depth of experience in tax planning, complexity of work managed, and demonstrated leadership experience.
The Manager / Senior Manager of Tax will be responsible for overseeing all tax planning and tax compliance aspects of our corporate entities and proprietary real estate, music royalty and self-storage funds. This will include managing the annual Canadian and US tax filing requirements and corporate structure tax planning throughout the year.
This opportunity is based in Calgary, Alberta and will be reporting to the CFO.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the corporation’s tax planning, tax compliance and tax strategy.
- Develop and implement tax strategies in both Canada and the US to optimize tax
positions and minimize liabilities.
- Provide strategic tax advice on acquisitions, dispositions, and other business
transactions.
- Monitor changes in tax legislation and assess impact on the corporation.
- Manage the preparation, submission, and review of all required tax filings.
- Prepare and/or review various annual tax returns for limited partnerships, mutual fund
trusts and corporate entities.
- Liaise with external tax accounting firms on the preparation of various annual tax returns
for limited partnerships, mutual fund trusts and corporate entities.
- Ensure timely and accurate tax filings are completed, including corporate income tax
returns, VAT/GST and other relevant filings.
- Liaise with external tax specialists on international tax planning and filings.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support overall business objectives and
financial planning.
- Support of the management of investor relationships including tax reporting and
tax queries.
- Provide support and guidance in risk management and work with the team to
reduce exposure to risk.
- Mentor and train other ICM staff in tax requirements and preparing tax filings.
Your Qualifications:
- A minimum of 10 years’ experience in Canadian tax planning and compliance.
- In-depth knowledge of Canadian tax laws and regulations.
- Experience with cross border US tax planning and compliance is preferred.
- A CPA Designation and completion of the CPA Canada In-Depth Tax Course is
required.
- Strong tax planning skills and experience in preparing tax filings.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to think creatively about complex operations and tax planning challenges.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex tax concepts to diverse audiences.
- Experience in managing relationships with service providers including external tax specialists.
- Experience in the real estate industry as well as investment fund entities and Exempt Market Dealers are assets.
